How to make your message sound as good as your work
You know you’re great at what you do.
Your clients stick around.
Your results speak for themselves.
You’ve got years of experience — and a solid reputation.
But when it comes to explaining your value online or in writing, something gets lost.
You either oversimplify and sound generic,
or overcomplicate and sound academic.
Neither reflects the actual quality of your work.
The good news?
You can fix that — and it doesn’t take a rebrand or new website.
Here’s a simple three-step process I used to realign my messaging:
1. Get brutally clear on your audience
Stop trying to write “for everyone.”
Ask yourself:
-
Who exactly do I do my best work with?
-
What situations are they in when they come to me?
-
What’s on the line for them?
If your answer is “business owners who want to grow,” dig deeper.
Clarity starts with specificity.
2. Use their words, not yours
This one’s hard if you’re used to industry language.
But your audience doesn’t talk about “strategic alignment” or “performance optimization.”
They say things like:
-
“I’m overwhelmed.”
-
“I don’t know how to explain what we do.”
-
“I’m tired of wasting time on the wrong clients.”
Use their words, and they’ll feel seen.
3. Shift from features to outcomes
Your process matters, sure. But what people care about is what it does for them.
Example:
❌ “6-week leadership intensive with weekly sessions and homework”
✅ “Build confident team leads who stop needing hand-holding.”
Focus on outcomes that tie to results. Then, back it up with your method — not the other way around.
The Customer StarMap™ Power Workshop walks you through all three of these in a way that’s fast, focused, and tailored to how you work.
No fluff. Just frameworks that make your message click.
